Marijuana on a Budget: Tips and Tricks to Save Money and Make Your Stash Last Longer

Weed is a lot more expensive than it was back in the day. No longer is an eighth called a “twenty-sack,” and there are no “dime-bags” of a gram for ten bucks. You know how quickly your stash can disappear if you’re a regular smoker. Inflation is no joke. So this week, we give you some great tips and tricks to save money and make your supply last a little longer.

Use a Grinder

Grinders are must-have accessories for the chronic weed smoker. They come in every color and material and range in size according to your needs. You can even buy electric grinders. But how does using one can make your stash last longer? Grinding your cannabis into small pieces ensures you get the most out of each bud. When you break up your marijuana by hand, you can lose trichomes containing cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. By using a grinder, you can preserve more of these precious compounds.

Another benefit of grinding your bud is this: when you pack full nugs or larger pieces of them into your bowl, they burn faster. Packing finely ground greens will slow your burn, giving you the same quality of hits but more of them.

Choose the Right Smoking Method

Another way to make your marijuana last longer is to choose the correct smoking method. Some methods are simply more wasteful than others. For example, smoking joints and blunts are fun, but you’ll tend to burn through your marijuana quickly with this delivery method.

A more efficient smoking method is using a pipe or a bong. These allow you to take smaller hits and conserve your marijuana. In addition, you can opt for smaller bowls so that your hits aren’t so big. If you really don’t want to give up those joints, save your roaches and use a roach clip to savor every last bit.

Vaporizing your marijuana is also a more efficient way to smoke. Vaping heats cannabis without burning it, so you can inhale the active compounds without inhaling any smoke.

Use Edibles

Another way to make your stash last longer is to eat it. Using edibles allows you to use less marijuana to get the same effects. Here’s why: when you smoke marijuana, you lose some of the active compounds through combustion, but when you eat it, you absorb all of the compounds through digestion.

So while buying gummies (for example) may cost a few dollars more than flower, the amount you have to take is considerably less. So you’ll generally end up saving money in the end.

But you don’t have to buy edibles at the dispensary either. Making your own is a fun way to save even more cash. *Remember that starting with a low dose is essential when consuming edibles. This is because they can be much more potent than smoking.

Take Tolerance Breaks

If you smoke weed on the regular, you will likely develop a tolerance. Those with high tolerance have to smoke more than those without it. As a result, their supply obviously doesn’t last as long. The best way to remedy this is to take tolerance breaks. After you stop using cannabis for a time, you’ll notice that you need less weed to obtain the same effects when you restart. And this means you’ll be saving some cash. Check out our article: How to Reset Your Tolerance to Cannabis, for some great ways to make it easy.

Grow Your Own

Perhaps the best way to save money on weed is by growing your own (as long as you are in a legal grow state, of course). You can look here to see what the cultivation laws are in your state.

Growing your own weed may require a bigger investment initially, but it will save you big money in the long run. Check out How To Grow Your First Cannabis Plant Outdoors and The Four Stages of Cannabis Growth to get an idea of what is involved in home cultivation.

Shop Around

Let’s face it, when it comes to weed shopping, we have choices. Some bigger cities have quite a few dispensaries. Las Vegas, for example, has more than 50 of them. Savvy weed shopping is a fantastic way to save money on your supply. Here are some tips on how to get the best prices on weed by shopping around:

Compare Prices – Don’t just settle for one shop. Instead, compare prices online or at dispensaries. Price comparison apps like Weedmaps and Leafly allow you to compare prices at different weed dispensaries in your area. Also, take the time to monitor weed prices regularly. Doing this will help you identify deals and discounts when they are available.

Follow Your Local Dispensaries – Most dispensaries have social media accounts and digital newsletters. Following them and signing up can keep you notified of sales, discounts, and other deals. Also, sign up for their rewards programs to access special discounts and offers.

If you are a regular smoker, at the end of the day, you are going to spend a good portion of your money on weed. But doing things like using a grinder and the right accessories, growing your own, and shopping around can really save you some moola. And spending less on what you love can make you love it even more.
